When we create art, we make something that begins to live. It takes its path and the creator follows. Whether I am drawing, painting or working with collage, the process is always the same: moving around form, colour and line until the piece begins to speak to me. I listen carefully to what it says.
I think of my work as an invitation to explore our unique emotional response to life. Working abstractly allows me to detach from the obvious and arrive at the core of meaning. I am drawn to the way form interacts with space in nature and architecture. This is reflected in my work, as I search for depth in line, texture and composition.
I see tremendous beauty in everyday objects, and a lot of my media comes from recycled materials. I use them to create texture, capture light and show contrast of color. It is also my statement in using discarded materials as a testimony to the power of art in creating meaningful change to the world and the environment.
